A short statement about the Congress

by Henry Chen Yao Su

“Why not join us to talk about organizing a World Federation Preventive and Regenerative medicine tomorrow noon?” said Professor Bader, when we met one day at the meeting of the 4th WCRM in Bangkok last year. I replied without hesitation, “oh, I don’t think it’s easy to combine the todies preventive and regenerative medicine at the same event. Nobody has ever done it before----“. It was the first time I heard the name and we shared ideas for such an organization. With combined of all Board Members since then, the organization has been established and an integration of these two fields, the two sides of the same coin, is going to happen at the upcoming 5th World Congress on Preventive and Regenerative Medicine ( which will be held at the Convention Center in Hannover from 5-7 October 2010). As a member of the Board, I’m looking forward to a fruitful meeting.

Regenerative medicine has been hailed for many yeras as the most important theme of medicine in the 21st century, and it is now beginning to prove itself. The extraordinary ability of the body to repair damage can be made even more extraordinary by the judicious use of stem cells, both in vivo and in the creation of new organs by tissue engineering; also, the range of techniques for repairing ticcue damage is always broadening. In particular, there is now an increasing recognition that regenerative medicine can be effectively used, within the next few decades, aganst the most universal medical condition of all - aging. The World Congress of Preventive and Regenerative Medicine will be a leading showcase for all of this work, and I am delighted and privileged to be involved with it.
